Subaru drivers love their cars and their brand. Even those who don't drive a Subaru still gawk longingly at their road companions on the highway, follow the company's every tweet, Pinterest and Facebook post, and now, they can watch an exciting bi-weekly web-series called "Launch Control." The new online show takes an insider look at the Subaru Rally Team USA and the Subaru PUMA RallyCross Team as they prepare for and compete in the global 2013 racing season. The series will be mostly on Subaru's YouTube channel, but viewers can also track down episodes on the Driving Sports Network, which is featured on iTunes, Blip.tv, Roku, Mevio, and DivXTV.
The 2013 racing season will boast a cadre of obvious technical and performance challenges, as well as small victories on the track and in the shop. The series sets out to chronicle these moments, with in-car video, mechanical insights and driver interviews. The first episode follows the well-decorated English David Higgins - Defending Rally American Champion of Subaru Rally Team USA - and his crew, as he trains in Wales, UK. Also featured is the mechanical team prepping the 2013 Subaru WRXSTI cars here in the states. ??
While the Subaru Rally Team USA has won six championships in the last seven years, they must prepare for new rules, racing formats and cars. For team members like Bucky Lasek and Dave Mirra, who are largely recognized for the X-games triumphs in skateboarding and BMX respectively, they'll be expected to learn fast. The new developments even will even pose learning challenges to three-time European RallyCross champion Sverre Isachsen.
Wall Street Journal contributor Jonathon Welsh notes the series "lands somewhere between a documentary and reality television". Two episodes have already aired and can be viewed here: http://subar.us/14wp86F
