Fuji Heavy Industries Turns Sixty in 2013

Fuji Heavy Industries, Subaru's parent company, is sixty years young this month, and is seeing great success in 2013, with exceptional sales of it's popular Outback and Forester lines in the US and Japan. According to the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety, the Outback is a Top Safety Pick within the class. To Subaru's surprise, it's newer line of XV Crosstreks are overwhelmingly successful, outselling projections in the American and Japanese markets by as much as tenfold. All these stellar performance markers give reason to celebrate a satisfying entry into a new decade for Fuji Heavy Industries, which began as a manufacturer of airplane parts. Over the years, Fuji Heavy Industries has delved into wind power and other manufacturing, but is best known to international markets for their Subaru motor division.

Subaru's claim to fame, besides its aim on engine reliability, is the inclusion of all wheel drive systems on most models available in North America. When Subaru introduced the Subaru 360, and later the Subaru 1000, US importer Malcolm Bricklin decided to bring them to the United States. Though beginning as a relative unknown in the auto market internationally, Subaru is now an established player with dedicated following in every market they serve.

In a competitive industry where manufacturers are eager to establish a specific image to their vehicles based on the target market, Subaru is proving more than capable of backing up their product lines. In two notable excursions to the African Bush by Arthur St Antoine for Epic Drives, and as the vehicle of choice for emergency medics treating remote areas, Subaru's Forester has been particularly successful at resisting the rigors of the harsh environment. The high clearance, light color schemes, handling, and good gas mileage all add up to a quality vehicle able to perform above and beyond expectations, even in the most remote and demanding conditions.

As more and more consumers realize the benefits and reliability associated with Subaru vehicles, whose proof lies in Subaru's continuing success within the crossover and small vehicle markets, it is likely the next sixty years will be just as bright for Subaru and Fuji Heavy Industries.
