Subarus have a reputation as being fun to drive all-terrain vehicles, but they're also building a legacy as the safest vehicle on the road. For the forth-consecutive year, Subarus have earned the distinguished honor as some of the safest vehicles of the year, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. No model was left out, as every Subaru received the Top Safety Pick award from IIHS. The list of honorees includes the 2013MY Forester, Impreza, XV Crosstrek, Legacy, BRZ Subaru Outback, and Tribeca.

The Subaru Legacy and the Subaru Outback also achieved "good" ratings for occupant protection in at least four out of five IIHS categories - earning for the first time the Top Safety Pick Plus award (TSP+). These are the first Subaru vehicles ever tested for the award.

"The strong ratings of our products in IIHS testing supports Subaru's belief in safety" said Thomas J. Doll, executive vice president and COO, Subaru of America, Inc. "Having 100% of our models listed as IIHS Top Safety Picks and now the Legacy and Outback models tested to TSP+ status demonstrates that."

The standards for IIHS awards are rigorous. Vehicles are tested by performance for driver and passenger protection in front, side, rear and rollover crashes with grades of Good, Acceptable, Marginal and Poor. For TSP+ awards, only scores of "good" are able to achieve the award. Additionally, winners of both TSP+ and TSP awards must have electronic stability control.

Subaru received direct praise from IIHS president Adrian Lund. "For four consecutive years, Subaru is the only automotive manufacturer with the distinction of earning IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK awards for every model it builds," said Institute president Adrian Lund. "Subaru deserves praise for making safety a top priority."
